About
Not nostalgia. A return with purpose.
Sankoficstoryteller
Sankofic is how Ahdis works, not a movement she belongs to. She reaches back through history and research, stays awake to the present, and hands the story forward. Theatre and writing are the two ways she tells it.
Since the age of 3, I’ve had several beloved interests and passions in the Arts — all of which have become my process of expressing myself, engaging with and reflecting the world.
As an emerging artist, at the heart of my work is a love of writing and research, to give voice and imagination to stories and create anew.
As a southern native Black woman who has always questioned the ways of the world, I find joy and value in offering stories that centre on southern life intricacies, cultural intersectionalities, and spirituality set in the 20th and 21st centuries of the Black experience.
Whether by a choreographed dance, original play, short story, TV script, or acting role, my goal has always been centred around Sanko-fic philosophy. This approach serves to innovate stories by encouraging the exploration of history and maintaining awareness of present times, so a once-voiceless story can be given for the future.
With the stories I write and perform, I aspire to depict Black life as I’ve experienced it: holistic, with complexity, and with resilient pride. My mission is to serve the Black audience across the diaspora, so viewers can see their culture in stories reclaimed and uplifted.
